In a remarkable initiative to ignite young students’ passion for robotics and technology, Techfest IIT Bombay, in collaboration with FIZ Robotic Solutions, recently organized a free hands-on workshop at Gondia Public School. The event was met with enthusiasm and saw participation from over 200 students in grades 8-9, who delved into the fascinating world of robotics, specifically focusing on a “Pick and Place Robot.”

Unveiling the World of Robotics: Workshop Highlights

The workshop was designed to provide students with an immersive learning experience, blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills. The agenda covered key topics that form the foundation of robotics:

1. Kinematics: Participants were introduced to the science of motion, helping them understand how robotic arms can be manipulated to perform specific tasks.
2. Motors and Chassis: Students explored different types of motors and how they integrate with the robot’s chassis to create motion. This session provided insights into building a sturdy and efficient base for robots.
3. Robotic Arm Mechanism: The heart of the Pick and Place Robot, the robotic arm, was studied in detail. Students learned how to control and program the arm to pick up and place objects accurately.
4. DPDT Switches: The Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT) switches were used to control the robot’s movement, teaching students the basics of electrical circuits and switching.
5. Power Supplies: Students learned about the importance of selecting appropriate power sources to ensure the robot’s operations run smoothly and safely.
6. Introduction to the Cosmoclench Competition: The workshop concluded with an introduction to Cosmoclench, a flagship robotics competition at Techfest IIT Bombay. Participants gained insights into the rules, challenges, and opportunities for showcasing their newly acquired skills.

Based on the test results, 12 outstanding students were selected to represent Gondia Public School at Cosmoclench during Techfest IIT Bombay, which will take place from December 17-19, 2024.

The upcoming competition offers these young talents an exciting opportunity to apply their newly acquired skills on a larger platform, competing with students from all over the country. It promises to be a great learning experience and a chance to interact with some of the brightest minds in robotics.
